Precision C-Clip Mold & 100,000-Part Production

How a compact industrial pipe clip moved from thermal and material review through mold manufacturing, two-material trials and stable volume molding.

A small component with material, fit and temperature requirements

The clip was intended for an industrial pipe assembly operating at approximately 70°C. Because the geometry was compact and the order volume was 100,000 pieces, material shrinkage, gripping dimensions and repeatable release had to be resolved before volume production.

Four questions controlled the production decision

For this project, the important story is not a generic tooling sequence. It is how application, material, shrinkage and functional fit were resolved before committing to 100,000 parts.

01Will it tolerate the stated heat?

The working environment was approximately 70°C.

02Will it flex and recover?

The clip had to install without cracking and retain the pipe.

03How will formulation affect size?

Filled and pure PP produced visibly different shrinkage.

04Which sample becomes the master?

The pure white PP version was selected for production.

The trial plan answered the decision the buyer actually needed to make

  • Application: industrial pipe retention in an approximately 70°C environment.
  • Geometry: 20 mm-class outer profile with a compact gripping section.
  • Material route: filled PP and pure PP molded under controlled conditions.
  • Decision point: compare appearance, shrinkage and functional fit.
  • Final selection: pure white PP approved for the production run.
  • Traceability: machining, sampling, molding and packing evidence shared by stage.

A gated workflow from steel cutting to approved volume production

Production did not begin immediately after the tool was finished. The mold first passed an engineering trial, two sample variants were reviewed, and only the approved material and corresponding dimensions moved into the 100,000-piece run.

  1. 01
    Requirement review

Application temperature, nominal dimensions, quantity and functional expectations were confirmed.

  2. 02
    Mold manufacturing

Tool progress was documented while the core, cavity and release features were machined and fitted.

  3. 03
    Two-material trial

Filled-masterbatch and pure PP samples were molded for a direct customer comparison.

  4. 04
    Sample approval

The pure white PP version was selected as the reference for mass production.

  5. 05
    Production & dispatch

The approved process was used for 100,000 parts, packed into ten production cartons.

One approved material route, one controlled 100,000-piece run

The customer compared real molded samples instead of selecting material from a data sheet alone. The pure PP version was approved, produced to the validated settings and delivered as a complete production lot.

What followed

Physical sample comparison before committing to volume production

The buyer requested both PP variants because of the tight tolerance, selected the preferred route after inspection and moved forward with the controlled 100,000-piece run.
